Our Story

During the economic downturn in 2008, many nonprofit organizations had to tighten their belts and lay off staff in order to continue providing community services that were now in high demand. A group of like-minded individuals banded together to form Strategic Grant Writers (SGW) to step in to provide grant research, writing, and management. Through the diligence of SGW, numerous nonprofit organizations were able to keep their doors open to meet the needs of the community.

SGW uses a selective team approach attuned to each nonprofit organization that capitalizes on decades of grant research, writing, and management experience. Our team of researchers, writers, and managers provides a depth of experience that is unmatched by any other firm, with an 82.3% funding rate. We are proud of the systems we have developed and look forward to discussing them with you!

Our Work

Grant research, writing, and management are some of the most significant tasks done in order to ensure the continuation of your nonprofit’s mission. Yet many individuals lack the time, experience or skills to complete a competitive grant proposal. Strategic Grant Writers is a company of highly skilled, professional individuals who specialize in writing persuasive and award-winning grant applications and proposals. We have systems in place to research, write, and manage your grant funding needs. Let us focus on the grant funding so you can focus on your mission!

Our Success

Grant writer success rates depend on a myriad of factors, including the organizational grant readiness, quality and timeliness of the documents and other material requested by the grant writer, the grant writer’s ability to identify appropriate funders whose priorities are a good fit with an organization, and a host of other factors. At Strategic Grant Writers, we focus on getting the best grant proposal and funder for your organization so that you have the best odds in getting the grant!

Specific organizational factors that influence the ratio of proposals funded include the following:

  • Has the organization set realistic targets for achievement?

Some nonprofits ask a grant writer to submit an arbitrary and large number of proposals each year. To meet this target, the grant writer may use the “shotgun approach” and submit the same generic proposal to a large number of funders as a time-saving approach, without proper research or cultivation. As a result, the success rate for this approach is likely to be low.

At Strategic Grant Writers, we discuss realistic goals with the nonprofit and make sure each proposal is unique and meets the specific parameters of each funders’ requirements.

  • Does the organization have strong programs that meet a clear community need?

Grant proposals have a much greater chance of being funded if they can offer a compelling solution to a well-documented community problem.

At Strategic Grant Writers, we develop community priorities with each nonprofit we work with.

  • Is the organization structurally and fiscally sound?

Sometimes the best-written grant proposal can be rejected because the funder has serious questions about the organization’s capacity to carry out the scope of work described in the proposal.
